About STAR

Project STAR (Social and Economic Transformation and Renewal) is a social and economic development initiative created by the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) in partnership with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and driven by communities to bring about societal transformation through targeted interventions in under-resourced areas of Jamaica. With partners committed to leveraging their networks and contributing to strategic and targeted interventions, the programme seeks to facilitate a collaborative, evidence-based approach to inclusive community development and sustained violence prevention. We are seeking highly motivated and people-oriented individuals for the following positions:

  1. Education and Schools Coordinator 

The Education and Schools Coordinator (ESC) will coordinate and oversee the development, implementation, and management of educational programs and initiatives with schools and educational institutions. This role aims to enhance educational outcomes, support educators, and ensure students have access to quality learning opportunities. The ESC is required to:

  • Design, implement and coordinate educational programs that align with curriculum standards and meet the needs of students;
  • Collaborate with educators regarding teaching strategies and resources;
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs, making 

adjustments as necessary.

  1. Community Project Officers – Savanna-la-Mar & Kingston

The Community Project Officer (CPO) will be responsible for:

  • Community Engagement
  • Project Planning and Development
  • Project Implementation
  • Logistics and Administrative Support
  • Monitoring and Evaluation
  1. Senior Entrepreneurship and Financial Inclusion Officer

The Senior Entrepreneurship & Financial Inclusion Officer will work with Project STAR participants to assist in assessing business ideas, preparing participants for running successful businesses, monitoring, bringing them into the financial network & teaching sound financial practices to assist in poverty alleviation.  This will require clear communication, innovation, monitoring methodologies, report writing & delivery of training & workshops. The specific duties include:

  • Develop & deliver training programs, workshops, mentoring sessions to help aspiring micro-entrepreneurs develop essential business skills, such as business planning, financial management, marketing & customer service;
  • Manage relationships & follow up on actions & tasks to ensure the success of the participants; 
  • Educate participants about financial management;
  • Administer projects via progress reports;
  • Conduct research to support areas of focus;
  • Manage relationships & follow up on actions & tasks to ensure the success of the participants. 

  1. Social Services Coordinator

The Social Services Coordinator (SSC) will liaison with the Ministries, Departments & Agencies (MDAs) & the community services teams to identify services that communities need to access.  He/she will be responsible for improving access to these services to support individuals & communities. This role aims to ensure the effective delivery of social services, promote community well-being, & facilitate access to resources & support systems. Responsibilities include: 

  • Provide direct assistance, referrals, & advocacy to help clients access necessary services & 

       resources.

  • Conduct outreach activities to raise awareness about available social services.
  • Organize & lead workshops, seminars, & training sessions for community members &service   

         providers. 

  • Foster partnerships with community organizations, government agencies, & other stakeholders to enhance service delivery.
